To keep this going we need people to help with some advocacy actions over the next week! Please share this post! Here’s some way you can get involved.
Next steps…
1) Keep Calling and Emailing Legislators
Protect Our Families!
A Sub-Bill was added to HB 795, known as the Safeguarding Healthcare Integrity through Electronic Location Data or SHIELD Act that would prohibit family members from being paid by Medicaid to offer personal care services to thousands of Ohioans with disabilities and senior citizens. This would affect not only the individuals on the Level 1, IO and SELF Waivers but also the Home Care Waiver, MyCare and Passport Waivers.
The full bill has not yet been voted out of the House Medicaid Committee, but this dangerous bill must be stopped before it moves forward. It is moving quickly so begin calling members of the committee immediately. Leave a voicemail if no one answers the phone.
Tell the person answering the phone who you are and that they must
- Remove the section of HB 795 which would prohibit families from being paid to support a loved one on all Medicaid waivers in Ohio.
- Remove harmful language requiring live in providers to use gps tracking and biometrics with electronic visit verification.
- No caps and cuts or prior authorizations for Medicaid waiver hours within managed care or other HCBS waivers
