So many people love all these posters that are made by Artificial Intelligence (Ai) or services like Chat GBT. Many people view AI as quick and it’s gets the job done. Maybe that is so for the creator; however these flyers forget accessibility.

It might be convenient or easy for someone to enter information and boom you have your flyer.

I am here to tell you that these flyers are hard to read. They are most often lacking plain language and the font is not friendly for people with Dyslexia. My friends tell me that there is often no way to change the font.

As a person with a learning disability, I feel lost in all of the text and colors . I can’t seem to process the information.

My one friend who is blind told me that the flyers are not easily accessible for screen readers either. So many advocacy groups using these flyers and they think it’s convient and their idea of “Convenience” is making information so inaccessible.

Many people who post these Ai posters also forget to add alternate text with the posters. They don’t add captions. Very few posters will add text in the comments.

So many of us with learning disabilities and or blindness are being left behind. Advocacy groups are in phase of well I have content out, we will worry about accessibility later.

If you are in a group that says let’s just get content out and worry about accessibility later you are only fooling yourself. Accessibility is important before posting information. This includes any content you post whether it is made with Ai or not.

My challenge to people is to think about the font, the text, the distractions in all the Ai posters this week.

Ai might be great so saving time but who are you excluding in the promotion of your events , sharing your content or even just sharing critical information or advocacy alerts? There are standards to making flyers accessible. Seems like when people use Ai they forget that. People need to be respectful, responsible and accountable when using Ai to generate content.

There are very few advocacy groups speaking about this. I think it’s because everyone thinks it is super convenient. I want to share plain language is a critical element in accessibility. It’s important. This needs to be said out loud . This blog is the best I can do.
